Training, mentoring, monitoring Flashcards
What are the benefits of staff receiving training in how to promote the values of care?
They will know what to do to ensure that individuals are treated with dignity and respect and will feel more confident in providing care that meets the needs of individuals from different cultures/backgrounds or with specific health care and support needs
What is mentoring?
Mentoring involves more experienced care workers providing advice and guidance about how to provide effective care. The new care workers could shadow the senior care worker and ask questions to fully understand best practice
How does mentoring lead to good practise?
Means that care workers continue to be supported following initial training and can ask for advice and guidance about how to provide adequate care - ensuring that knowledge and best practice is shared by more experienced workers. New care staff can observe good practice taking place
How could a care organisation monitor the care provided by staff?
- Using patient feedback forms to check their views about the quality of care provided
- Observation of care workers and feedback by managers/more experienced workers
- Inspections to check on the quality of care being provided
- Asking staff about the quality of care provided (through staff meetings, etc.)
- Anonymous feedback or complaint boxes to get honest feedback from service users
