Induction training
Given to employees when they first start job. Familiarize them with role, settle into job and become more productive sooner.
On-the-job training
Training given in the workplace usually by another more experienced employee. May teach colleagues some essential skills and knowledge in formal or less formal settings.
New employees may shadow colleagues or training providers by computer software.
Off the job training
Outside employees workplace. Provides very specialist skills and knowledge with no existing employee possesses.
Advantages of on the job training
Provides the precise skills and knowledge needed by businesses employees
Relative,y cheap and cost effective way to improve productivity
Employees remain in workplace - saves time, avoid travel and hotel expenses
Disadvantages of on the job training
If business provides trainers it can temporarily lose the services of those employees for period of training
Doesn’t generate new ideas and less effective then off the job
Advantages of off the job training
Brings fresh and new ideas to the business and provides the most up to date knowledge and skills
Valued by employees, esp if it leads to formal questions. Improve levels of motivation
Disadvantages of off the job training
Costly - may not be cost effective of employee performance doesn’t improve significantly
It can be a risky choice as employees may leave the business soon after their new skills may be attractive to other employers
