What is legislation ?
A set of rules that governs the way society operates (another term for laws)
What is employment law?
A set of rules stating the right and responsibilities of the people who work for a business
What are examples of laws that relate to employment in the uk ?
National minimum wage, national living wage, equality act 2010, other employent laws
What is national living wage ?
An hourly rate of pay which is set by the government
What is the equality act 2010?
A law that prevents discrimination against employees on the basis of age, gender, disability, race, sex and other grounds
What are effects of employment laws?
Can affect the cost of production, number of people a business employs, employees skill and motivation levels and the level of profit that the business earns
Why does we have health and safety laws?
They are intended to ensure that the workplace does not pose dangers for employees
What os the health and safety at work act 1974:
A law which lays out the responsibilities that employers and employees have to maintain
A safe and healthy workplace
What are the effects of the health and safety at work act on a business?
Increase the cost of production, provides protective guards for machinery, safety clothing, and training all costs money
What is consumer law ?
Laws that prevent businesses from treating their customers unfairly
What are example of the consumer right act 2015 ?
Product quality, returning products, rights and replacement, delivery rights, unfair terms and contracts
Hy was the consumer rights act 2015 introduced?
To simplify, strengthen and modernize the existing law in order to give consumers clearer rights when buying good and services
What are trades descriptions?
Laws intended to prevent incorrect information been given on packaging, labels and in advertisements
What are the disadvantages of consumer laws on businesses ?
They increase costs of production and business cannot sell consumer information to increase revenue
What are the advantages of consumer laws on businesses ?
Consumers can be confident that potentially dangerous products have been manufactured too a high level of quality and safety
