- Fail to produce a licence
- Produce a suspected fake licence or altered licence
- They we’re the supervisor at the time of driving
Section 143 of RTA makes what an offence?
The use, cause of permit of someone using a motor vehicle on a road or public place unless there is insurance in force.
What is Section 165a of RTA?
Take it away.
The power of a police officer to seize a motor vehicle if a driver is suspected of driving without insurance or a driving licence.
How long is it for an untaxed vehicle before the police will seize it?
2 months and a day.
What is section 165 of RTA?

What does cause mean in traffic?
Causing someone to drive/use that vehicle. Usually someone in a position of authority such as bosses at work.
Also, it’s not necessary to prove owner knew vehicle being used on road when no insurance applies.
What does aide and abetting mean in traffic?
Someone who assists in the commission of an offence.
Person must be aware of the facts
Must give assistance or encouragement
What is a Section 59 Police Reform Act warning and what does it allow officers to do?
A warning when a vehicle is causing a nuisance (loud, donuts, high revs etc).
Vehicle can be seized if the driver has been warned already and the nuisance continues and he does then continue to do so.
What offences require a NIP? (DEFFLA)
Dangerous/Careless Driving/Cycling Excessive speed Fail to comply with Reg 10 signs Fail to comply with officers directions Leaving in a dangerous position Aid/Abet any of the above.
What is a HO/RT1?
Known as a producer.
If someone fails to provide licence or insurance docs and unable to check other means then you can give someone this and they have 7 days to shown at a police station with a help desk.
What is a VDRS?
Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme.
Where there is an issue with the vehicle and you allow them the chance to rectify these issues. They have 14 days to do so and have to have it signed by an MOT garage. They then need to produce this to a police station.
How many defects can be listed on a VDRS and what happens if it is exceeded?
3 Defects
Reported for summons.
In what situations do we now really issue FPN’s (Fixed Penalty Notices)?
When the driver is NOT present and the vehicle is causing an obstruction offence.
What is a TOR?
Traffic Offence Report.
Used for offences such as speeding, mobile phone use, seat belts etc.
If someone at the road side asks for an educational course what do we say?
The information will be passed to the Central Processing Bureau and if they deem appropriate they will let you know.
What is the maximum offences allowed on a TOR and what happens if it is exceeded?
1 Endorsable Offence
And
Up to 3 non-endorsable offences.
If either exceeded then report for summons.
Can a TOR be issued at an RTC?
No
If someone doesn’t accept a HO/RT1, VDRS or TOR?
We would just report for summons
What information is required in order to report someone for summons?
Name & Address Vehicle Details (VRM, Make/Model) DOB and Place of Birth Occupation Tel Number Email address
What must we do when we tell someone they are being reported for summons?
Now Caution them.
What is Section 4 RTA?
It is an offence to drive, attempt to drive or be in charge of an MPV on a public road whilst unfit through drunks or drink.
