Tracts Flashcards
Where does UMN travel in corticospinal tract?
Motor cortex to anterior grey horn
Where does UMN decussate in corticospinal tract?
Medulla
Where does LMN terminate in corticospinal tract?
Anterior grey horn
Is corticospinal tract contralateral or ipsilateral?
Ipsilateral
Cause of LMN lesion?
Damage to spinal nerve, nerve root or nerve plexus
4 signs of LMN lesion?
Fasciculations
Muscle wasting
Decreased tone
Decreased reflexes
Cause of UMN lesion?
Damage to neural pathway above anterior horn of spinal cord/ motor nuclei of cranial nerves
4 signs of UMN lesion?
Increased tone
Increased reflexes
No marked muscle wasting
No fasciculations
What modalities does spinothalamic tract carry?
Sensory modalities of pain, temp, crude touch and pressure
Is spinothalamic tract contralateral or ipsilateral?
Contralateral
Where does spinothalamic tract decussate?
Spinal level (i.e. fibres go to different side, sensory loss on opposite side)
What modalities does dorsal column tract carry?
Sensory of fine touch, proprioception and vibration
Is dorsal column contralateral or ipsilateral?
Ipsilateral
Where does dorsal column decussate?
Medulla
