Traction Comeng Flashcards
What is the Comeng primary safety apparatus?
T - Trip (missing of faulty)
E - Emergency application valve (unable to reset)
C - Control Governor (not closing)
H - Hand/Foot pilot valve (unable to reset)
A - Anti-neutralisation device (activating above 8km/h)
V - VICERS (failing to reset after key isolation)
What is the secondary safety apparatus?
F - Foot operated pilot valve
E - Emergency pilot valve
E - Emergency control governor
C - Control governor by-pass push button
What do we do if there’s a fault with the primary safety apparatuses? (Driving cab)
Isolate the equipment via the Red EC isolating cock
What do we do if there’s a fault with the primary safety apparatuses in a trailing cab?
Isolate the equipment via the Yellow TECHAV
Where are the Red EC and Yellow TECHAV isolating cocks located?
On the b side of the motor car, near the drivers can door.
What’s the procedure for enabling the emergency circuit (Secondary safety apparatus)?
- Secure the train (modified unattended cab procedure)
- Turn the red EC cock across the pipe
- Isolate the VICERS key switch (to stop the VICERS Acknowledge button)
- Operate the foot pilot valve
- Press the red control governed bypass button (every 30 secs)
What is the minimum for starting the Comeng train when prepping?
- Raising at least 1 Panto
- Starting at least 1 Motor Alternator
What ways can the spring park brake be applied?
Locally by pushing the spring park brake on the A side of the train
Train line via the spring brake on button on the right side of the driver display (push for 5 secs)
Put the train into off
Put the train into neutral (after 60 secs)
What 4 things happen when you open the BVIC?
- MR air thru brake controller into Brake pipe
- Blue door close button illuminates
- Rheo/EP brake
- Lower pressure flag down = lockout magnet valve energised
What are the van area cabinet isolating cocks?
P - Panto EP switch isolated
M - Motor Alternator EP isolated
T - Trip gear isolated (falls to the lowered position)
B - Brake pipe sensor isolated (tricks the train into thinking break pipe pressure is 0, so you can uncouple)
P - Panto and Motor Alternator isolate (Fitters)
E - EP Main reservoir Isolate cock (low pressure flag)
What can make the low pressure flag raise?
- Pressure in the main reservoir drops below 500kpa
- The EP brake is inoperative due to failure or isolation of the power supply to the Lock Out Magnet Valve
- The brake valve isolating cock and switch is closed
How long must you hold the door close/open button?
2 seconds
How many volts are used for train line commands?
110v DC
Left hand console panel
When do you use the couple button?
On a curved section. The couple button de-energised the self centring device
What’s the procedure to cut in (set trip)?
- Open BVICS (Charge brake pipe pressure to 550kpa)
- Flick Trip Switch to down
- Move brake into emergency to drain brake pressure (0 kpa)
- Move brake into Run and Release
- Move brake into Step 7
