1
Q
Historic event that lead to establishment of toxicity testing
A
Thalidomide/Contergan disaster of 1960s where drugs caused abnormal formations in new born infants highlighting the need for testing.
2
Q
Toxicity tests performed on whole animals.

Acute, sub-chronic, reproductive, teratogenicity, ocular/skin, hypersensitivity and behavioural.
3
Q
Fixed dose procedure
A
Drugs are tested on animals in 5, 50, 500, 2000 mg/kg steps until LD50 is found.
4
Q
New Approach Methodologies
A
Non-animal testing that can provide as good, if not better human recreated responses than animals.
5
Q
AMES testing

Uses a salmonella species which requires histidine to grow to test dugs for mutagenicity.
