Tourism GI Flashcards
Dexa of Random Sampling
Selecting people with no uniformity or pattern involved in the selection proces
- Can be used in large population
- Can reduce bias (equal chance of being picked)
- Poor representation( if large population missed out ) when it is in a large area of study
- Practical constraints in terms of available and access to certain parts of the study area
Dexa of Systematic sampling
Selecting ppl based on a predetermined interval
- An effective method of covering a large area of study
- Can be seen as more biased as it can miss out on variations (over or under representation in a particular trend study)
Dexa of stratified Sampling
selected based on specific sub groups to investigate, (ie age, gender)
- An effective method of ensuring better representation of the total population that has known population sub sets
- Allows for comparison study between population subsets
- exact size must be accurately determined for it to work
- full info on the known subsets mey not be readily or easily available
- may be difficult to find the necessary respondents for each sub set
Dexa Questionnares
set of prearranged questions which seeks information form people about themselves and their views
- Large amounts of information or data can be collected in a shorter amount of time
- Allow students to survey a larger number of ppl
- wide range of responses and information can be obtain
- Open ended qns are more flexible but hard to quantify
- Close ended qns allow for greater uniformity of measurement and greater reliability, however make be inaccurate as the respondents may find that there are no appropriate selections
Dexa Interviews
Set of qns used to obtain first hand data on people’s views and information about themselves
- Allow for the asking of more in depth qns and clarification of answers
- May take longer to conduct than a questionnaire/survey
Dexa perception survey (bipolar survey)
A data collection method to investigate people’s views on the quality of the environment/ tourism attraction. by showing them two extreme oppsite words to describe the environment, then allowing them to choose the most suitable option. ( able to be represented im a standard bar graph)
- quick, more accurate as it is able to determine the degree or extent
- easily shows the factors that need improvement and show overall perception of tourists on the tourist destination (+ve or -ve)
- Rating is subjective and may be understood differently by different individuals
- the rating is quantitative and does not allow for qualitative responses like comments, reasons or feedback
- tourists may just choose “0” as a neutral answer and thus reduces reliability.
