how are the trends in global tourism changing?
international tourism: tourist origins and destinations - increasingly more tourists from developing countries such as China and India.
domestic tourism: growth of this type of tourism e.g in 2010, 83% of all tourist arrivals globally were domestic tourists.

what is mass tourism and what factors lead to it?
it is travel that involve large numbers of tourists visiting a place together, e.g package holiday.
Increased affluence and leisure time lead to mass tourism
what is niche tourism?
a special-interest tourism based on a particular area of interest. e.g whale watching in hawaii.

ecotourism!
- Defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserve the environment and improves the well-being of the local people, ecotourism involves visits to relatively undisturbed areas.
- aims to help travelers better appreciate natural beauty and biodiversity.
- provides funds for ecological conservation, benefiting local communities and fostering respect for local cultures and lifestyles.
e. g Waitomo Caves in New Zealand, has glowworms (ew) that light the ceiling and is a good example of responsible ecotourism.
what are short haul destinations?
destinations that are a short distance away, reachable by car, train or bus, or flights less than 5hours.
what are long haul destinations?
destinations that are a long distance way, reachable by flights that are more than 5 hours.
