Topology Flashcards
What are the advantages of a bus topology?
Cheap
Easy to setup
You can have a server
What ate the disadvantages of a bus toplogy?
Slow
Collisions between data
The server can get overloaded
What are the main operations of a bus topology?
It transfers data through one cable which is called a back bone. You wouldn’t have more than 20 devices to this network because it will overload.
What are the main operations of a ring topology?
It passes the data around the nodes clockwise. You can use this for peer to peer.
What are the advantages of a ring topology?
Cheap
Easy to setup
No collisions
What are the disadvantages of a ring topology?
Slow
Bandwidth is linked to all of the devices
What are the main operations of a star topology?
It is centrally controlled and managed. This can be used for a LAN and a WAN, it depends on what is connected.
What are the advantages of star topology?
Easy to add new component to the system.
What are the disadvantages of star topology?
If the hub fails then the whole network goes down.
Higher cost
Limited capacity nodes.
What are the main operations of a Mesh topolgy?
This gives multiple connections to multiple connectors so everyone can get the data quickly.
What are the advantages of a Mesh topology?
Fast
If more than one component fails it can continue to be used.
What are the disadvantages of a Mesh topology?
This is extremely complicated to manage
