What is the supported bit rate an bandwidth of 802.11d?
54 Mbps
Does not support 300Mbps
What is coaxial cabling?
• Coaxial cables are usually constructed with copper or aluminium and are used by cable TV companies to provide satellite TV.
What is twisted pair cabling?
Twisted Pair Cabling is a type of copper cabling used for telephone communications and most Ethernet networks. Pairs of wires form a circuit that can transmit data over a network. There are two types, Unshielded and Shielded.
What is a straight through cable?
- Most common type of cable
* Used to connect a computer to a central connecting device like a switch.
What is a crossover cable?
• Used to direct similar devices without using a hub.
Used for p2p (peer-to-peer)
What is MDI and MDI-x Ports
- Medium dependent interface (MDI) is a type of Ethernet port connection using twisted pair cabling.
- For computers to communicate with other devices, the wires have to cross somewhere.
- Instead of using crossover cables to connect computers to central connecting devices such as switches, these central connecting devices are equipped with MDI-X ports (medium dependent interface crossover) which take care of the cross.
What is near end crosstalk? (NEXT_
Occurs when there is measured interference between two pairs in a single cable, measure on the cable end nearest the trasmitter.
What is far end crosstalk? (FEXT)
Occurs when there is a similar interference, measure at the cable end farthest from the transmitter.
What is data emanation?
Data emanation is when a electromagnetic filed is generated by a network cable or network device which can be manipulated to eavesdrop on conversations or to steal data.
What is a permanent virtual network?
With frame relay, multiple sessions can run simultaneously on the same link.
These connections to the cloud are known as permanent logical links or permanent virtual circuits.
What is ISDN?
Integrated services digital network is digital technology developed to combat limitations public switched telephone networks.
Users that have ISDN can send data, fax, or talk on the phone, all simultaneously from one line
What is basic rate ISDN (BRI)?
This is 128 kbps with two equal B channels 64 kbps each for data. Generally devices that connect to BRI lines can handle eight simultaneous conenctions to the internet.
What is Primary rate ISDN?
This is 1.536 mbps, and it runs on a T-1 circuit
▪ PRI has 23 equal 64kbps B channels for data, along with one 64kbps D channel for timing
What is ATM?
Asynchronous transfer mode is a cell-based switching technology.
The cells that are involved are a fixed length, normally around 58 octets. (53 bytes)
What is a SONET?
Abbreviation for synchronous optical network.
It transfers data in multiple digital bit streams over fibre optic network.
What is FDDI?
Fibre distributed data interefence is a standard for transferring data on fibre optic cables. It uses a ring topology. can extend over 200km.
