What is DORA?
DHCP sessions use for step process known as DORA.
- Discovery
- Offering
- Request
- Acknowledge
What does the discovery process do in DHCP?
The client computer broadcast out to a network in order to find Aa DHCP server.
What does the offfering process do in DHCP?
The DHCP sever sends out a unicast “offering” of an IP address to a clients computer.
What does the request process do in DHCP?
The client broadcast to all server that it has accepted the offer.
What does the acknowledge process do in DHCP?
The DHCP server send a final unicast to the client that include the IP information the client will use.
What is FDDI?
• Fiber distributed data interference is a standard for transferring data on fiber optic cables.
○ It uses a ring topology
○ Can extend to over 200km uses optical cabling.
What is FUll Duplex?
Can transmit and receive data at the same time.
What is half duplex?
Can transmit and receive but not at the same time.
What is simplex?
One way connection.
What is a gateway address?
The way out of a network.
What is WINS?
Wins converts netbios names to IP addresses.
What is OSPF?
Sends a multicast packet as soon as a chnage in network configuration is detected.
What is CSMA/ CA?
Collision avoidance- ethernet wireless
What is CSMA/CD?
Collision Detection- wired
What is an IP conflict?
IP conflict occur when two computers are configured with the same IP address.
Can occur if two computers are using the same static IP address that falls into the same DHCP range for the local network and the same address is assigned to the computer by DHCP.
