Topik 4 Flashcards
Types of tissue
Epithelial tissue (protection)
Connective tissue (support)
Nervous tissue (control)
Muscle tissue (movement)
What is tissue?
A group of cells that have similar structure and related function
(Histology)
Function of epithelial tissue
-Protection from physical/chemical injury
-Contains receptors which stimulated to stimuli
-filters, secretion, reabsorb materials
Classification based on shape
Squamous (flat)-protect
Cuboidal- protect/secretion
Columnar -secretion/absorption
Classification based on arrangement
Simple (one layer)
Stratified (several layer)
Pseudo stratified (not several layer)
Transitional (easily stretch)
Simple cuboidal epithelium
Kidney tubules, ducts
Simple columnar epithelium
Gallbladder, uterine tubes
Stratified squamous epithelium
Esophagus,vagina, mouth
Pseudo stratified columnar epithelium
Trachea
Transitional epithelium
Ureters ,bladder
Glandular epithelium
Glands; single/group of epithelial cells/secrete water base substances
Exocrine glands-
secrete substance into body cavity
Have ducts
Mammary, liver
Endocrine glands-
Secrete product into blood stream
Hormones travel to target organ to increase response
No ducts
Pituitary
Types of epithelial membran
Serous membrane
-secret serous fluid
Mucous membrane
-secret mucus
Cutaneous membrane
-Cover body/skin
Synovial membrane
- lines joint
Connective tissue function
Connect,binds, support structure
Connective fibers
Collagen fibers
-strong/flexible
Reticular fibers
- support/strength
Elastic fibers
-smaller stretch, elasticity
2 cells of connective tissue
Fibroblasts- make/secrete fibers
Immune cells-
Macrophages (phagocytosis)
Plasma cells (antibodies)
Mast cells (produce histamine)
Adipocytes (fat cells that support)
