basic physical and functional unit of heredity. genes are made up of DNA and the two types of genes are dominant and recessive
define dominant genes
displays characteristics despite the other gene
define recessive gene
characteristics are only expressed when no dominant gene is present

what is Down syndrome
an extra chromosome as a result of abnormal cell division and growth at conception
