Topic 9 (Chemistry Of The Atmosphere) Flashcards
What is phase 1 of the evolution of the atmosphere
The earths surface was covered in volcanoes that erupted and released lots of gases, this is how the atmosphere was formed. The early atmosphere was probably mostly made up of CO2 and very little oxygen
What is phase 2 of the evolution of the atmosphere
Water vapour in the air condensed to form the oceans, lots of CO2 was removed from the early atmosphere as it dissolved into the oceans. Green plants and algae formed which absorbed more CO2
What is phase 3 of the evolution of the atmosphere
Aswell as absorbing CO2, plants and algae released oxygen. Over time the percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere has increased until we reached todays atmosphere
What are ways to reduce your carbon footprint
Renewable energy
Efficient processes
Tax emitting companies
Cap on emissions
Carbon captures
