What are they and how old/weight are the pigs?
Feeder pigs (40-70lbs @ 6-8wks) GROW TO 120LBS which is the growing phase
Grow until market hogs of 250-300lbs @20-24 weeks which is the finishing phase
Thermal Comfort Zone
Temperature range in which animal doesnt have to expend additional energy to regulate its body temp
As pigs increase in size they are less tolerant of heat and more tolerant of cold
Size of pig and their comfort zone:
40-75lbs?
75-150lbs?
150+lbs?
70-85 F
60-83 F
45-80 F
What happens if floors are rough
Toe pad lesions
Solid floors minimize lesions and increases structural support
Void increases temp and cleanliness
What type of floor is most common?
Solid floors that need to be .5-1 inch / foot slope
Partially slotted floors = >1/3
Water intake and flow rate
Water should be consumed 2(feed intake)
Flow rate influences consumption (>.2 gal/min)
Swinging waterer could increase interest so they could drink more that way
