Topic 4 : Tissues Flashcards
Four main types of tissue
Epithelial / Connective / Muscle / Nervous
How many bones in the skeletal system
206
Structures that support the Skeletal system
Bone / Cartilage / Ligaments / Bursae
What is the human skeleton divided into
Axial / Appendicular
What bones are the Axial skeleton is formed of
Skull / hyoid / ribs /sternum / bones of the vertabrae
Appendicular skeleton
Bones attached to the axial skeleton consisting of upper/lower limbs via shoulder and pelvic girdles
Bones in the axial skeleton
Skull / Auditory ossicles / Hyoid / Vertebrae / Ribs / Sternum /
Bones in the Appendicular Skeleton
Pectoral girdle / Arms / legs / pelvic girdle
Bones in the pectoral girdle
Scapula / Clavicle
Bones in the arms and forearms
Humerus / Ulna / Radius
Bones in the wrists and hands
Carpals / Metacarpals / Phalanges
Bones in the thighs and legs
Femur / Patella / Tibia / Fibula
Bones in the ankles and feet
Tarsals / Metatarsals / Phalanges
Pelvic girdle bones
Hip / pelvic/ coxal
What is epithelial tissue (epithelium)
Forms linings and membrane, does not contain blood vessels and developes glands of the body
What is connective tissue
Supports and binds, contains cells, matrix and fibres and is found around organs, fatty tissue, ligaments, cartilage, tendons and bones
What does epithelial tissue develop
Glands of the body
What are the three types of specialised muscular tissues
Skeletal, voluntary and involuntary
What muscular tissue is under the control of the body
skeletal and voluntary
What muscular tissue are nit under the control of the body
Smooth, involuntary
Where do you find involuntary muscles of the body
Around organs/heart (cardiac muscle) they all work automatically (not under conscious control)
What does nervous tissue do
Receives internal and external stimuli (arouses activity or energy) which relays to other tissues
What does a nerve cell consist of
Cell body and axon
What are an axon and dendrites
Threadlike parts of a nerve cell along which impulses are conducted from the cell body to other cells.
