The process of hiring people to work in the business
Selection
Choosing the right person for the job from many who apply
CV
Curriculum Vitae, a document outlining a person’s qualifications, skills and work history
Reasons to hire more staff
Diversification and expansion
Staff retention
Keeping staff, rather than losing staff and having to hire more
Staff turnover
The rate at which people leave the business and are replaced
Internal recruitment
Hiring people who already work in a business for different jobs or roles
External recruitment
Hiring people from outside a business for jobs or roles
Candidate
A person who has applied for a job, before the final selection is made
Employment agency
A business that sources, selects and hires staff on behalf of other businesses
Recruitment advertising
Ads placed online or in the press calling for applicants for a particular position
Job description
The detailed list of all roles and responsibilities that a job entails
Shortlist
A stage after initial selection where the candidates are reduced to a smaller group, usually before the interview stage
Jobcentre Plus
The UK Government agency that deals with unemployed people and assists them into work
Vacancy
A position that is available to be filled at a particular business
