Topic 4 Flashcards
Strength of plant fibres IV, DV and CV
IV - source and type of fibre
DV - mass that can be held
CV - length of fibre, size of mass
Strength of plant fibres - method
Attach fibre to a clamp and gradually add masses in the middle until fibre snaps
Plant mineral deficiencies - IV,DV,CV
IV - minerals
DV - physical characteristic of plant
CV - volume of mineral, species, size of container, amount of light received
Plant mineral deficiencies - method
Make up mineral solutions and grow a plant in the test tube and cover the top of tube with foil
Measure the height of the plant and comment on colouring and leaf conditions
Bacterial growth - IV,DV, CV
IV - Presence of plant extract
DV - zone of inhibition
CV - Conc and volume of plant material, lawn of bacteria, contamination time,
Bacterial growth - method
Grind plant extract with ethanol
Pipette 0.1cm on paper disc and allow to dry
Place disc on agar plate, reducing the amount of time the dish is open
Prep petri dish - use wire inoculation loop to transfer bacteria on afar and spread all over the plate
Incubate at 25C for 24 hours and measure clear zone
