What was the Enabling Act?
It was an act that allowed for the suspension of civil liberties, the control of the press, the abolition of trade unions and the disbanding of all parties except the Nazis
How did the Nazis secure votes for the Enabling Act?
Communists weren’t allowed to vote, the SA was used to intimidate members outside the chamber, they made promises to the Centre Party to win their votes and the absentees were counted as present
What did Gleichschaltung mean?
It was a policy that meant bringing German society into line with Nazi philosophy
