topic 3b - lysogenic lifecycle Flashcards
what enzyme is always needed during this cycle?
integrase
what are the steps of this cycle?
step 1 - attachmentstep 2 - penetration step 3 - incorporation step 4 - synthesis step 5 - assembly step 6 - release
What steps are different from the lytic cycle?
step 3 - incorporation step 4 - synthesis
what is step 3: incorporation?
-viral genes join host cell genome (using integrase)
what is the incorporated virus now called?
provirus (or prophage if bacteriophage)
what is the drug target of incorporation?
drug: integrase inhibitors - would stop the binding of the viral genes to the host genome
what are some of the triggers that activate expression of viral genes?
- chemical, physical, or emotional TRAUMA -
age (older - hormones (menstrual, pregnancy, steroids)
- other illnesses (“cold sores”)
- UV radiation (“sun poisoning”)
- AA agrinine (higher ration w/ aa lysine)
what is the difference between the synthesis step of lyic and lysogenic cycles?
- lysogenic starts with proviral DNA no matter what genome type virus
what is the drug target for the synthesis step?
drug: reverse transcriptase inhibitors
