Why is urbanisation happening so quickly in some places?
Urbanisation is happening faster in poorer countries.
This is because there are lots more job opportunities in the city than in the countryside
There is a lot better hygiene and living standard meaning people can live longer
What is rural to urban migration?
People who are moving from the countryside to the city also know as urbanisation.
Examples of pull factor
More job opportunities in the city
Better transport options in the city
Generally higher pay and better quality of life
Both skilled and unskilled labour.
Better and cheaper education for both adults and children
Better access to goods and services
Generally better opportunities for everyone
Examples of push factors

Explain why developing cities like in Kampala are growing?
Rural areas are very poor. Improvements in agriculture mean fewer farmers are needed therefore they travel to the city to seek better unskilled jobs.
Good transport links so trade is focused providing lots of jobs
Foreign company’s are interested and manufacturing industry interested
Explain why developed city’s like London and new York are growing
Due to the decline of industrial areas in other cities some people seek out better job opportunities in the major cities.
A lot of low skilled workers e.g. Cleaners are leaving other cities and coming to the bigger and more successful cities.
Why are cities in developed countries decling?
People are leaving cities like hull because of de industrialisation, it has led to the decline if industrial areas and it has caused people to move away.
Unskilled workers are also leaving these cities because they would rather work in the more successful cities
What is formal employment?
Formal employment is officially recognised, workers are protected by laws such as hours, pay, health and safety. Workers also pay tax on what they earn .
What is informal employment?
Is unofficial, jobs aren’t taxed or regulated, people often work long hours in dangerous conditions for little pay
Example of primary secondary tertiary and quaternary jobs
Primary- raw materials- fishing, wood cutting, mining
Secondary- product into another product- furniture, steel
Tertiary- providing a surface- financial, nursing and retail
Quaternary- information economy- IT, electronics, consultancy
