The night of the long knives
30 June 1934
Rohm and about 400 leaders of the SA were murdered by the SS with army support
Hitler also took this time to have schleicher and Gregor strasser killed to secure his own position.
The move was
Both illegal and ruthless but proved popular
When Hindenburg died
2 August 1934 these actions cleared the way for hitlers total supremacy
He combined offices of president and chancellor and every soldier swore an oath to him

Hitler was more wary of Catholics than Protestants inside Germany
14 July 1933 Catholic Church signed a concordat To preserve its independence

Govt turned the evangelican into one united reichstag church with a nazi as bishop
However100+ plasters reacted by forming splinter movement which aimed at preserving Protestantism
And other attempts to make a more nazified church failed
Army
1933 hitler won over the army when he agreed to honour their traditions and political neutrality
They were also impressed by talk of rearmament and conscription
The army escaped coordination
