What are IP rights?
Negative rights to stop others from copying

Subject to time limitation
Why is IP protected?
Economic interest - financial reward
Social interest - incentive innovation
Moral interest - privacy and dignity protected
What is the difference between intellectual property in a broad and narrow sense?
Broad sense - comprises both intellectual in a narrow sense and industrial property
Narrow sense - any creations which are awarded protection from birth or creation
What are industrial properties?
Inventions solving technical problem or creations distinguishing an undertaking’s goods or services.
E.g. Patents or Trade marks
What are the 6 economic rights?
1) Reproduction rights
2) First sale
3) Rental rights
4) Public performance right
5) Public communication right
6) Adaption right
What are moral rights?
Can be in the form of paternity rights; right to claim authorship, or the right to integrity; allowing objection to derogatory treatment
What are trademarks?
Trademarks are distinctive signs which have three requirements;
Sign (design, names, letters),
Can be represented graphically
Distinguishes goods and services.
