Even if cities aren’t megacities they can be very very important
Hyper- urbanisation
Where the growth of a city is so rapid that the population doubles every 23 years
Sustainable
Meets the needs of the people and the environment without impacting upon future generations
Rural to urban migration
This is the movement of people from the countryside to the city. This involves the push and pull factors.
Informal economy
This is where a person does not have any employment rights, does not get regular pay and does not pay taxes.
Formal economy
This is an official job where the person pays taxes and has rights.
Suburbanisation
The movement of people towards the suburbs on the edge of the city.
Counter urbanisation
This is the movement away from the city to the countryside.
Reurbanisation
This is the movement back into the city to live.
Regeneration
This is where former industrial areas are redeveloped and improved.
Brownfield site
This is where a derelict site gets improved and developed. Often on a city.
Greenfield site
This is green land that may get developed on and is often on the edge of a city.
