What is an organisational strucure?
An organisational structure shows how employees are organised in a business.
What is a hierachal(Tall strucutee)
When a business has 4 plus lines of hierachy
What is a flat stucture?
3 or less levels of organisation
Advantages of tall structure?
-Narrow span of control
-Promotional opportunities
- Staff can clearly see how their role fits within the overall organisational structure
Disadvantages of a tall structure?
Long chain of command
-communication will take longer to reach works at the bottom level
What is the importance to having effective communication
-Provides information
-Gives instructions
-Provide clear direction for all staff
What makes communication effective?
-Clear and easily understood
-Accurate
-Complete
-Appropriate
-Via the right medium
-With a chance for feedback
-Where possible,check the message has been understood
Benefits of effective communication?
-Staff knows what is expected of them
-Increases efficiency
-Better quality decisions
-Customer satisfaction
-Less mistakes,reduces costs
Barriers to effective communication?
Jargon-technical terms not understood by workers
Receiver may not hear or receive the problem due to a technical problem
The message may get distorted in its transmission-especially if message has to pass many layers in the hierarchy
What are the different ways of working?
Full-time contract,Part-time contract,Temporary contract,Flexible hours,including zero hour contract
Freelance contract
Advantages of full time contracts
-Committed staff
-More motivated
-More stability
Disadvantages of full time contracts
-increased fixed costs,including cost of providing employee benefits
-Less flexibility
What is a freelance contract
Freelance contract-Someone who is self employed and not committed to one business.
-Specialist in their profession
Advantages of freelance contract
Cheaper and more flexible-employ them when demand is high
