Topic 2.1 Movement analysis: lever systems & mechanical advantage Flashcards
Define a lever
A lever is something that aids movement . A system that includes a pivot point
What is in a lever system
Pivot/Fulcrum
effort
load
In your body what is the fulcrum, load and effort
joint
thing you want to lift up
muscles

Example of 1st class lever
tumble turn (neck joint)
Example of 2nd class lever
taking off in long jump
Example of 3rd class lever
bicep curl
Mechanical advantage
if the effort arm is longer than the resistance arm; less force is required to move the resistance than the actual inertia of the resistance.
Mechanical disadvantage
if the effort arm is shorter than the resistance arm; more force is required to overcome the inertia of the resistance.
