for memory output refers to the information we recall and output can refer to a behavioural response.

encoding is turning sensory information into a form that can be used and stored by the brain.

acoustic encoding, visual encoding and semantic encoding
what is semantic encoding?
holding the meaning of information
what is visual encoding?
remembering images
what is acoustic encoding?
remembering sounds
what is storage? in memory terms
storage is the retention of information in our memory system.
what is retrieval?
