Topic 2: Cellular Tissue, Organ & Systemic Effects Flashcards
1
Q
There are four types of tissues. What are they?
A
- Nervous Tissue
- brain, spinal cord, nerves
- Epithelial Tissue
- lining of GI tract organs & other organs, skin
- Connective Tissue
- blood, plasma, adipose tissue, bone, tendons
- Muscle/ Skeletal tissue
- Cardiac, smooth, skeletal muscle
2
Q
What are some causes of cell injury?
A
- Hypoxia
- nutritional imbalances
Physical agents: - hypothermic injury
- hyperthermic injury
- atmoshperic pressure
- sunlight
- trauma
3
Q
What is Hypoxia?
A
Lack of sufficient oxygen required for cell function/ metablosim.
4
Q
What is ‘ischemia’?
A
Reduction in the blood supply to the cell - or ‘restriction in blood flow’.
5
Q
Ischaemic injury is often caused by what?
A
Gradual narrowing of the arteries. (Arteriosclerosis) / or a thrombosis.
6
Q
Mechanism of cellular injury are:
A
- ATP depletion
- O2 and O2-derived free radicals
- intracellular calcium increased
- defects in membrane permeability
