Body Sections And Planes Flashcards
Describe the ‘sagittal plane’.
The ‘Sagittal Plane’ divides the body into LEFT and RIGHT.
The term ‘Midsagittal’ means the exact middle of the body.
Describe the ‘Transverse Plane’
The ‘transverse plane’ divides the body into UPPER and LOWER - a horizontal slice being inserted into the body/ organ etc.
Describe the frontal or ‘Coronal Plane’
The ‘Frontal/ Coronal plane’ divides the body into FRONT and BACK or POSTERIOR/ANTERIOR.
Coronal secrions are common in brain imaging, such as images ontained from CT scans.
List all Anatomical direction terminology & give an example.
The transverse section divides the body into:
Superior = towards the head
Inferior = towards the feet
The coronal secrion divides the body into:
Anterior = towards the front (ventral)
Posterior = towards back (dorsal)
Medial = towards midsaggital secrion Lateral = away from the midline
Proximal= towards attachment point to the body Distal= further from point of attachment to body
Superficial= towards body/ skin surface Deep= towards body centre or core
Central= towards body core Peripheral= towards extremities/ periphery
