Anabolic Steroids, Beta Blockers, Diuretics, Narcotics/Analgesics, Stimulants and Peptide Hormones.
What are Anabolic Steroids?
Develop Muscle Mass, Increase Strength, Speed up recovery. Used by Athletes. Can increase aggression.
What are Beta Blockers?
Control Heart Rate. Used in Archery. Can reduce Heart Rate to dangerous levels.
What are Diuretics?
Reduce body weight by getting water out of body. Used by Jockeys. Can cause long term Kidney Problems.
What are Narcotics/Analgesics?
Powerful painkiller. Used by someone who is injured. Can affect loss of balance.
What are Stimulants?
Promote alertness. Used by Football Players. Offset effects of Lactic Acid.
What are Peptide Hormones?
Increase Muscle Growth. Used in Endurance Events. Can thicken blood leading to possible heart attack.

Smoking/Nicotine and Alcohol.
What are the risks of taking Nicotine to your health?
Addictive, Risk of Coronary heart disease, Reduces aerobic fitness.

How can you prevent Injuries in Physical Activity?
Warm-Up and Cool-Downs, Checking equipment and facilities, PAR-Q, Balanced Competition and Complying with the rules of the game.
How does Warming up and Cooling Down prevent injuries?
Allows muscles to warm up and stretch. Cool down will reduce the muscle soreness by getting rid of Lactic Acid.
How does Checking Equipment and facilities prevent injuries?
Check weather conditions and safety of playing surface, to remove any debris and ensure that players are wearing appropriate equipment/footwear.
How does completing a PAR-Q prevent injuries?
Helps the participant consider their Health and Fitness before starting an Exercise programme.
