Q

Does temperature alter the equilibrium constant?

A
  • yes
  • if changing the temp causes less product to form, the equilibrium moves to the left, and the equilibrium constant decreases
  • if changing the temperature causes more product to form, the equilibrium moves to the right and the equilibriium constant increases

Q

Why does concnetration not affect the Kc at a fixed given temp?

A
  • if the concentration of one thing changes, then the concentration of the other musts change to keep the value of Kc the same

Q

Why does pressure not affect the Kc at a fixed given temp?

A
  • increasing the total pressure increases the partial pressure of each of the products and reactants
  • the equilibrium shifts to the side with fewer moles of gas to decrease the pressure
  • overall effect is that Kp and Kc are unchanged
