what is the function of water in the body?
- regulate body temperature
- helps kidneys flush out excess/foreign substances
- helps filter waste products
- transport nutrients, oxygen and carbon dioxide
- most body processes
what is dehydration?
more water is being lost from the body than is being replaced by drinking, insufficient water in diet
what are the symptoms of dehydration?
headache, dark-coloured urine, weak, sick, confused, quick heartbeat, change in blood pressure
What happens if the body does not get water?
Blood starts to thicken and difficult to pump, so heart stops
How much water do we need?
1 to 2.5 Litres
What factors determine how much water we drink?
weather, physical activity, amount of salt, age
what is water intoxication?
too much water in the diet
what are the symptoms of water intoxication?
headaches, nausea, vomiting - can cause death
Are fruits and vegetables a good source of water?
yes
