Top 4 - Bioenergetics Flashcards
Where does photosynthesis take place?
The chloroplasts.
Symbol equation for photosynthesis.
6CO2 + 6H2O —–Light—-> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Why does glucose combine with nitrate ions?
To make Amino Acids they then form Proteins
Why do plants store glucose as starch?
Because starch is insoluble which makes it better for storage in for in the winter when photosynthesis isn’t happening.
In the inverse square law how are light intensity and distance linked?
Light intensity decreases in proportion to the square of the distance.
Give one way that the CO2 levels in a treehouse can be increased.
Add a Paraffin Heater inside as Paraffin burns it produces CO2 as a by-product.
What is respiration?
It is the process of the transfer of energy that the cell need to do just about anything - this energy is used for all living processes.
What is metabolism?
Metabolism is all the chemical reaction in an organism, therefore if you have a fast one it means your body reacts chemicals together very fast.
When is anaerobic respiration used?
It is used if there’s not enough oxygen.
Symbol Equation for aerobic respiration.
C6H12O6 + 6O2 —————–> 6CO2 + 6H2O
What is fermentation?
Anaerobic respiration in yeast cells is called fermentation.
Lactic Acid is converted back into glucose cells in which organ?
The Liver.
