Tooth Formation Flashcards
What is a lobe?
An area of development known as the “center” of the developmental process.
What are the 3 purposes of studying teeth development?
- Effects from disease and drugs.
- Parent Education
- Treatment planning
What does the lobe become?
The Incisal edge or cusp.
How are developmental grooves formed?
By the fusion of adjacent lobes
What teeth do mamelons typically form?
Anterior teeth (not canines)
What teeth do developmental grooves/depressions typically form?
Posterior Teeth
What are mamelons?
Incisal edge evidence of fusion of adjacent lobes
How many lobes are used in the development of incisors and canines?
4 lobes
How many facial lobes are needed in the development of the facial surface for incisors and canines?
3 facial lobes
What type of lobe (and how many) is responsible for the development of the cingulum in incisors and canines?
1 Lingual Lobe
How many lobes are involved in the development of the maxillary premolars?
4 Lobes
How many lobes form the buccal cusp of the maxillary premolars?
3 lobes
How many lobes are needed in the development of the lingual cusp of the maxillary premolars?
1 lobe
How many lobes are involved in the development of the mandibular premolars?
4-5 lobes
How many lobes are required for the development of the lingual cusp of the mandibular premolars?
1 or 2 lobes
How many lobes are involved in the development of the maxillary and mandibular molars?
