Tools for use in the industry Flashcards
Level 1 of risk control?
Elimination
Level 2 of risk control?
Substitution, isolation, engineering controls
Level 3 of risk control?
Reduce exposure, PPE
List 6 risk assessment tools?
- ManTRA (Manual Task Risk Ax)
- REBA (Rapid Entire Body Ax)
- RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Ax)
- Liberty Mutual Tables
- NIOSH lift equation
- UTAH Back Compression force calculator
ManTRA?
- assess 4 body regions: LL, back, neck/shoulder, arm/wrist/hand
- considers total time a task is performed through day (exposure)
- considers time task performed w/o break (duration)
- considers 5 characteristics of the task (cycle time, force, speed, awkwardness, vibration)
REBA?
- body divided into segments and coded individually with reference to mvt planes
- scoring system for muscle activity caused by static, dynamic, rapid changing or unstable postures
- provides an action level with a level of urgency
Lots of reps or force, should use which tool?
ManTRA
More posture focussed, use which tool?
REBA
Liberty mutual tables?
Provides male and female population percentages capable of performing manual material handling tasks w/o over exertion, rather than the max. acceptable weights and forces
What’s the ideal design for manual tasks?
Design manual tasks for greater than 75% of the female work population (best protection from manual handling injuries)
Which tasks should be prioritised for re-design?
Those with population percentages of less than 10%
What’s an Act?
Law to be followed
What’s a Regulation?
How to achieve the Act
What’s a Code of Practice?
Guidance materials on how to achieve the Regulation
The report?
- Executive Summary
- Purpose of report
- Methodology
- Findings (exposure, forces/effort, postures, environment factors, vibration, cognitive/psychosocial factors)
- Recommendations (control measures - hierarchy of control)
- Summary
