How many watt bulbs does the FDNY use in their Portable lights?
2.1 Portable lights in use by the Department utilize 500-watt lamps.
What should be done when the light located on the blower housing on the generator is blinking?
3.4 Generators are equipped with a low oil shutdown. If the light located on the blower housing is flashing, the generator will not start. Check and adjust oil level if necessary.
What is the ideal length of electrical cord when powering an exhaust fan from a portable generator?
3.5 If a portable generator is used to power an exhaust fan, the ideal length of the electrical cord should be 50 feet or less. Electrical cords of longer lengths reduce the efficiency of the fan and may result in damage to the equipment being used. Distance is not a problem when powering small tools and lights.
What are the procedures for operating and checking portable generators?
3.8.2 Operate portable generators for 15 minutes weekly. During this time, operate all lights for 5 minutes to test for proper working order of lights and generator under load. If lamps do not light while testing or using, check bulbs for tight conne ction.
What is the only maintenance that we do on Portable lights?
3.8.1 The only maintenance required on the lights is bulb replacement. Bulbs may be procured from Technical Services. All other repairs to lights should be done by Technical Services.
When properly mated waterproof connections are good up to how many feet of water?
5.3 Waterproof connections are good for use in up to 3 feet of water when properly mated. Care must be used when using all other connections near water.
When should onboard rig generators be tested?
4.6 Onboard generators shall be checked weekly during Multi Unit Drill.
