Company officer an duty in charge of quarters must personally supervise and be aware of the following:
Make certain the storage tank can accept the total delivery and test well is securely recapped.
A. Check gauge and use dip when stick line provided.
Secure measuring gauge cover before delivery is started.
Insure that the driver hooks up to proper fill box or fill line.
In quarters when there are multiple fill terminals for gas, diesel oil, and fuel oil how can we determine which is which?
2.1
In some quarters, you may find three fill terminals, gasoline, diesel oil and fuel oil. When more than one fill terminal is provided, gasoline is always a right hand thread and a different size than others. Where there are multiple storages, diesel and fuel oil are left hand threads and distinguished from each other by different size fill terminals or marked cast covers.
During and after deliveries, carefully examine for leakage and unusual odor of fumes. If this occurs:
A. Stop delivery.
B. Shut down all possible ignition sources.
C. Ventilate - particularly low areas.
D. If condition persists, take all action necessary to protect life and property.
E. Notify Fire Department Buildings by phone and forward necessary requisition.
What procedures shall be done after the delivery?
2.1.4 & 2.1.5
After delivery, insure that fill terminal caps have been secured and sealing gasket is in place. Measure tank to insure against possible loss of product or improper delivery.
Company commanders shall insure that what type of piping is kept clear of all materials?
3.3
Company commanders shall insure that storage related piping are kept clear of all materials
which may cause damage.
What are our 2 options when dealing with fuel spills in quarters?
4.1.4
Immediately flush away spills with copious amount of water. Avoid flushing spills into sewer systems. Consideration should also be given, when feasible, to sanding operations or other appropriate measures.
Maintain contact between fuel tank and nozzle, just prior to and during refueling operation. This will prevent what from occuring?
4.1.5
This method of grounding will prevent static sparks.
