\+1 for history of fever tonsillar exudates tendor anterior cervical lymphadenopathy absence of cough <15 +1, >44 -1 3/4 = antibiotic
treatment of tonsilitis?
viral - rest, analgesia
bacterial - penicillin 500mg for 10 days or erythro/clarithromycin
who gets surgery?
> 7 sore throats in past year
5 in each preceding 2 years
3 in each preceding 3 years
complications?
AOM sinusitis scarlet fever rheumatic fever peritonsillar abscess glomerulonephritis
treatment of a peritonsillar abscess?
aspiration and benzylpenicillin IV/penicillin oral
appearance of a peritonsillar abscess?
medial displacement of tonsil and uvula
concavity of palate lost
