what an instrument sounds like

eg: rough/smooth, warm,rich,mellow/not warm; light,bright/dark; piercing/not piercing; muted,muffled/clear; nasal/not nasal; distorted/not distorted etc

string term: played with bow
pizzicato
string term: plucked
harmonics
produced by lightly touching the string and resulting in a thin sound an octave higher. Generally used on string instruments.
