A
  • what is the passage’s subject, and who is its audience?
  • analyse the diction of the passage. Are there any unusual or highly emotive words?
  • what is the connotation of the key words in the passage?
  • what detail ( information that appeals to the senses ) is included?
  • what images ( figures of speech ) are used, are they positive or negative?
  • what feeling does the author want to generate?
