RNA virus, positive sense strand, replicated in cytoplasm

No treatment for arbovirus
Rubella characteristics
Aka German measles
Childhood exanthem
Contain envelope
Rubella S&S: in childhood
Fatigue and fever
Causes post-auricular and cervical lymphadenopathy
Maculopapular rash (starts at the head and moves downward)- moves faster than measles and doesn’t darken or coalesce
Can be spread via respiratory droplets
Rubella S&S: in adulthood
Lymphadenopathy, fever, arthralgias, and arthritis
Rubella S&S: congenital
One of the ToRCHeS (+VZV and parvo)
Classic triad: Cataracts, sensorineural deafness, and PDA
Other common symptoms-
Mental retardation, microcephaly, Deafness, blindness, cataracts, jaundice, PDA, pulmonic stenosis, purpuric blueberry muffin rash, and radiolucent bone lesions
Treatment
No treatment
Vaccine: MMR vaccine (live attenuated)- contraindicated for pregnant and immunocompromised (HIV: CD >200)
Togavirus precursors
Produces long polypeptide precursor that is cleaved into activated subunits via proteases
Buzzwords
Immigrant (can indicated that vaccinations not present)
Descending rash with lymphadenopathy
