Cognitive Development
Toddler are in the sensorimotor stage, they learn from experimentation and hands on learning

Toddlers are in the Autonomy v. Shame stage
This is a egocentric period- focus is on self rather than others

Toddlers engage in parallel and symbolic play at this stage
Assessment
Work from more comfortable aspects of the assessment to the more uncomfortable aspects, saving things like the ears for last
Still measuring height, weight, and head circumference and charting growth on growth curve
Growth
Half of adult height by 2 years of age
90% of head size by 2
Growth slows between 12-24 months
Body begins to look more like adult proportions
Potty Training
Begin potty training around 18 months
Want child to:
Remain dry for 2 hours, not including naps
Recognize when they are going to the bathroom
Have the ability to walk, pull pants up and down, and get on/off toilet with minimal assistance
Want to use the toilet
Have patience and choose your battles!
Mortality
Developmental factors: Limited knowledge, Distracted, Curious, Running and more active Physiologic factors Accidental injury: Falls, Burns, MVA, Drowning Non Accidental injury, like abuse
