ritualism, negativism, ambivalence
initiative
begins to plan acitivites, make up games, initiates acitivities with others
centration
they can center on one thing at a time and you can’t move them. *tell them what they can/will see, feel, hear, smell, what they wake up to, what they will hear
irreversibility
don’t understand all their body boundaries
transductive reasoning
they put things together in time just because they once coexisted at one time (ie. going to the mall and seeing grandma)
animism
they think inanimate things are alive (naming IV poles, etc)
magical thinking
they think they can make things happen with the power of their mind very evident through “HIGH ACCESS SIBLINGS” (less than 2 years apart and same sex) = emotionally bound/binding.
symbolic play
when they use an object to represent another object *ie. using a box as a pirate ship, should have some sign of symbolic play by age 18 months (won’t be seen in children with autism)
limited concept of time
use events instead of time *after lunch is your nap, meds before bedtime
cognitive egocentrism
they think the way they view/see things is the way that everyone can (ie. show me your hands - they put them up and think that you can see them the same way they can)
illness as punishment
they think that only bad things should happen to bad people
fear of bodily harm, castration
no concept of body boundaries, a lot of fears about body boundaries, may ask if something will leak out (ie. IV or bandaid taken off)
