you can focus on 2-3 things and move them around (they don’t just focus on one thing)

they understand that people get sick and people get better. they can understand that their body takes up something that is injected. age 8 is a stage of much more maturity and some of the chronic care can be turned over to them.
seriation
by about 8 they can seriate (this is the best diet on the page, this is 2nd); putting things in order
equivalency
they start to understand equivalency (ie a dime is worth more than a nickel)
conservation
they start to understand the principle of conservation – that matter does not change when it’s form changes; the liquids example – the taller one does not have more in it
classification
they like things to be put into groups
reversibility
they understand their body boundaries (IV isn’t going to leak out, if they’re sick they won’t be sick forever)
improved concept of time
can understand 1/2 hours, hours, etc. By 8 better understanding of time.
peers
becoming more important to them
self-control
extremely important for them to have self-control. try to give them some control (letting them raise their hand to stop a procedure)
