Titrations Flashcards
What do titrations allow you to do
They allow you to find out exactly how much acid is needed to neutralise a quantity of alkali
How do you determine when an end point of a titration has been reached
The indicator would have changed colour
What are the steps to carry out a titration
1.Use a funnel to fill a burrete with some acid of known concentration, record the initial volume of acid in the burette
2.In a conical flask add an alkali and an indicator
3.Using the burette add the acid to the alkali a bit at a time giving the conical flask a swirl as it goes
4.When you reach your end point stop the flow and record the final volume of acid in the burette
5.Use this recording along with the initial volume to decide how much acid was needed
What sort of titration should you do first
A rough titration
Within your repeats how close should the measurements be to each other
Within 0.10cm cubed of each other
