Q

What do titrations do?

A

Allow you to find out exactly what volume of acid is needed to neutralise a measured volume of alkali (and vice versa)

Q

How to do a titration?

A
  1. using a pipette and pipette filler add a set volume of an alkali to a conical flask with 2-3 drops of indicator.
  2. use a funnel to fill a burette with some acid of a known concentration. Wear safety glasses
  3. use the burette to slowly add the acid while swirling it regularly going especially slowly when a colour change may happen.
  4. when the indicator changes colour when all of the alkali has been neutralised.
  5. record the final volume of acid in the burette and use it with the initial reading to calculate the volume of acid used to neutralise the alkali.
