Tissues Flashcards
What is a tissue
A group of cells that are similar in structure and function
What are the 4 types of tissue
- ) epithelial
- ) connective
- ) muscular
- ) nervous
What is the function and cell structure (CS) of the epithelial tissue, provide an example
Function: covers, lines and protects
CS: closely joined cells
Example: outer layer of skin, organs, the mouth
What is the function and cell structure (CS) of the connective tissue, provide an example
Function: support and hold together
CS: cells separated by large amounts of material called matrix
Example: bone, cartilage, tendons
What is the function and cell structure (CS) of the muscular tissue, provide an example
Function: movement and support
CS: muscle fibres are long and thin
Example: skeletal, smooth, cardiac
What is the function and cell structure (CS) of the nervous tissue, provide an example
Function: control and communicate
CS: neurons (nervous cell) has long projections
Example: brain, spinal cord, nerves
What are the 3 types of muscular tissue
Smooth
Skeletal
Cardiac
Name the location, control and features of the skeletal muscular tissue
Location: muscles attached to bones
Control: voluntary
Features: has striations (strips) and arranged in parallel bundles
Name the location, control and features of the smooth muscular tissue
Location: walls of organs (uterus and GI track)
Control: involuntary
Features: no striations and tapered
Name the location, control and features of the cardiac muscular tissue
Location: walls of the heart
Control: involuntary
Features: has striations connected at branding irregular angles
