Tissue Types Flashcards
Name the three types of Epithelial cells
- Simple Squamous
- Simple Cuboidal
- Simple Columnar
What are simple squamous cells?
A flat, epithelial cell which makes up thin membranes. Has a flat nucleus.
- It has a fast absorption and diffusion rate.
- It’s found in the alveoli of the lungs, the serous membranes and the lining of the heart and blood vessels.
What are simple Cuboidal cells?
Square shaped epithelial cells that are about as tall as they are wide.
- Absorb nutrients and produce secretions (sweat)
- They are found in the Kidney tubules and ducts/secretory sections of small glands.
What are simple Columnar cells?
Cylindrical epithelial cells which have a stretched, over shaped nucleus.
- Absorb nutrients and produce secretions.
- Found in The digestive tract (secretory) and the bronchi and uterine tubes.
What does connective tissue develop from?
Mesenchyme
What types of fibres are connective tissues made up of?
- Collage: Dense Fibres.
- Elastin: Elastic Fibres.
- Reticular: Fine Fibres.
Define Ground Substance
The unstructured material that fills the space between the cells and contains fibres. It’s composed of interstitial fluid, Cell adhesion proteins and proteoglycans. Acts as a molecular sieve. Ground Substance + Fibres = Extracellular Matrix.
Name the types of Connective Tissues.
- Connective Tissue Proper
- Loose Connective Tissue: Areolar, Adipose and Reticular.
- Dense Connective Tissue: Dense Regular, Irregular and Elastic.
- Cartilage: Hyaline, Elastic and Fibrocartilage.
- Bone: Compact and Cancellous
4: Blood.
Name the four basic tissue types
- Epithelial Tissue: A covering tissue.
- Connective Tissue: Supports other structures.
- Muscular Tissue: Movement.
- Nervous Tissue: Controlling tissue. Sends information around the body.
