Tissue Response to Injury Flashcards
What are the 3 phases of the inflammatory response
- inflammatory response phase
- Fibroblastic repair phase
- Maturation-remodeling phase
about how many days is the inflammatory response phase?
3-4 days
about how long is the Fibroblastic repair stage?
about 6 weeks
about how long is the maturation-remodeling phase?
years or forever
Signs of inflammation
SHARP swelling heat altered function redness pallor (discoloration) or pain
when does healing begin?
immediately when the tissue is disrupted
what cells are part of the initial reaction and what is their role
phagocytes (clean up damaged cells) protect healthy cells localize damage to injured cells decrease injurious agents prepare for healing and repair
after about how long does clot formation begin and how long does it last?
after about 12 hours. lasts about 48 hours.
what kind of ice is best?
crushed ice
what is proper ice application?
20 min on, 1 hr off, repeat if possible
apply directly to the skin unless cold allergy
what are 5 contraindications of ice?
Reynaud's syndrome (ice allergy) diabetes recent surgery sensitive skin altered senstation
what is proliferation of connective tissue?
excessive build up of scar tissue, detrimental to healing
the 4 types of soft tissue
epithelial
connective
muscle
nerve
T or F
Cartilage has a great blood supply
F
cartilage has little to no direct blood supply
5 stages of acute bone fractures
hematoma formation cellular proliferation callus formation ossification remodeling
